Stay Active encourages all students aged 5 - 12 years to participate in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day, to meet the minimum recommended requirements for this age group as outlined in the Australian Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines. Participating in an after-school tennis program enables students to achieve their 60 minutes, as well as the other great benefits of physical activity such as enhancement of memory, concentration, behaviour and academic achievement.
Some of the skills students may learn include: ball control, footwork, forehand and backhand strokes and serving. Using the Game Sense approach, amongst other benefits, students will be engaged in minor and modified game strategies and concepts where there are opportunities to develop both skills and an understanding of the tactics of the game.
Stay Active can deliver an after-school tennis program ranging from 4 – 8 weeks in duration. Our maximum number of participants is 25, or 30 if there is an allocated teacher/SSO who actively assists every week. We ask that, where possible, the program is offered to an age range of children whom span across no more than three year levels (e.g. years R – 2). This allows our Children’s Sports Facilitators to design a program that is tailored to that specific age group.
To promote ongoing participation in sport and physical activity beyond the delivery of our programs, Stay Active endeavours to utilise any sports equipment available at the school and/or OSHC. However it is important to note that this will be discussed with the school prior to scheduling the program.
